The Japan Pro: A 1981 Basketball Shoe Rebuilt for the Board
The Japan Pro starts from a base that has nothing to do with skating: the 1981 FABRE JAPAN S, a basketball shoe from the 80s. Asics Skateboarding takes it and updates it to today's skateboarding standards without losing the original lines. The result keeps the low profile and court-shoe proportions, with a build made to take on sessions. The Caramel Midnight colorway sets warm suede against deep navy stripes: a restrained palette straight out of the retro wardrobe.The upper is built in caramel suede, with suede paneling and triple stitching at the heel and toe, two zones that work nonstop when you skate. The toe box is perforated for airflow, the Midnight navy stripes run along the sidewall and meet a textured heel counter stamped with the Asics logo in caramel. The collar shows a navy mesh lining, the thick tongue carries the "asics SKATEBOARDING" label, and matching flat laces stay in the caramel tone. An elastic band keeps the tongue in place. The cream outsole carries the embossed Asics logo on the sidewall.
The thick tongue cushions lace pressure, and the elastic band stops the tongue from shifting mid-session: the fit stays locked from the first run to the last. The perforated sockliner adds stability and impact absorption, useful on landings and on foot. Underneath, the cream outsole runs a wavy tread and circular pods for grip, with a low profile that keeps your foot close to the board. The suede upper, backed by triple stitching, is built to hold up against griptape wear.
