The laced moc that traces back to the Danish house's boat shoe roots

At Original Playboy, it didn't all start with the slip-on loafer. Before that became a signature style, the relationship between the Danish house and the Playboy brand was built in the 1970s around something else entirely: the very first Playboy® boat shoe collection, created in 1977 for the Swedish America's Cup 12-metre team. The Malo picks up that lineage directly. A strong, timeless silhouette, a closed moc construction, an obvious visual link to the house's nautical heritage — while other styles in the range went the loafer route, the Malo keeps the lacing and structure that trace back to where it all began.

The deep black tumbled leather upper carries a pronounced grain and dense texture, the result of a process that softens and structures the leather at the same time — a rawer, more worked finish than a polished one, closer to traditional leather craft. The closed moc construction, hand-sewn, fully wraps the forefoot with clean, visible stitching, with no gap or looseness in the material. The subtle two-eyelet lacing closes the collar without ever weighing down the silhouette. Underneath, the profiled mid-height rubber outsole deliberately breaks from the traditional flat boat shoe sole, giving the pair extra ground presence. Inside, the cognac micro leather lining contrasts against the black upper and shows at the collar, a detail that signals the quality of the interior finish.

The profiled mid-height outsole absorbs the unevenness of city pavement better than a classic flat sole, while keeping the lightness that defines a moc. The micro lining and cushioned micro insole work together for comfort that holds up through the day, from the office to weekend plans. The closed moc construction, with no gap or opening at the forefoot, protects the foot better than the open builds inherited from the classic boat shoe, while keeping the natural give of tumbled leather that molds with wear. Handmade in Portugal, the Malo carries the same level of craft as the Danish house's historic pieces.
