The Chuck Taylor All Star goes CONS, Converse's skate line, with a simple brief: hold up through the sessions. The CTAS Pro is built around skaters: a high-top with a familiar profile, reinforced on the sides, dressed here in leather. Total Eclipse pushes the black all the way, and the pair's only yellow hides in the details.

Total Eclipse is black with no breaks. Pebbled leather covers the whole upper, the big metal eyelets are black, and the Chuck Taylor ankle patch stays tonal, with a fuzzy texture that sets it apart from the smooth leather. Across the forefoot, marbled rubber overlays break up the surface with a satin sheen. The yellow only shows up in two places: the black laces flecked with yellow, and the yellow insole stamped CONS and CX Cushioning. At the toe, the rubber is cut in diamonds, three stacked black stripes wrap the sidewall, and the CONS license plate is debossed at the heel. Underfoot, the gum outsole picks up the diamond tread.

CX foam soaks up impact: stair landings, gaps or flat ground. The leather upper follows the shape of your foot and softens up session after session, while the rubber lateral overlays add durability on the sides. Underfoot, the gum diamond tread brings grip on the griptape. On a high-top, lace tight up to the instep and leave the top a little looser: your ankle keeps its flex for flips. A damp cloth and a little neutral cream are enough to maintain the black leather.
