The Adidas track pant dressed running tracks, football terraces and hip-hop stages long before it hit the skatepark: Run-DMC even turned it into an anthem in 1986. For the Gatsele, Adidas Skateboarding teams up with Welcome Skateboards, the Californian brand known for its dark imagery, occult references and out-there board shapes. The result plays on contrast. On one side, the white embroidered Trefoil and the three stripes, classic Originals. On the other, the Welcome logo, all spikes and thorns, also embroidered, in a typeface that looks lifted from a black metal record sleeve. In between, cream panels run down the legs and black stripes edged in orange sit low on the calf, like on 80s training tracksuits.

The fit is loose and relaxed, with room through the thighs and a leg that narrows to the ankles via elastic cuffs. The fabric is a woven polyester, 100% recycled, more structured than a fleece jogger with a slight sheen. A comfortable elastic waistband, side pockets and two back welt pockets: everything you need in a pant you wear from morning to night. The three stripes aren’t printed but sewn on as tape, with an orange edge that pops against the cream panel. Both embroideries, Trefoil and Welcome, are dense and slightly raised.

Woven polyester is made for days on the move: it stands up to friction and abrasion, doesn’t crease, dries fast and cuts some of the wind. The loose cut gives total freedom at the knees and hips, whether you’re pushing on a board, chasing a bus or sitting for hours.  The cut is already loose. Your usual size gives the intended look, roomy through the thighs and gathered at the ankles. No need to size up, the elastic waist already gives you some leeway.
• How do I wear the elastic ankles?
 Two ways: let the fabric stack over your shoe for a ballooned look, or push the hem up slightly onto the calf to show off your sneakers. Both work with the loose cut.
• Is recycled polyester just as tough? 
Yes. Once woven, it performs the same as standard polyester in durability, drying time and colourfastness.
