The Big Boy fits very large (Oversized). If you want a really baggy look, choose your usual size. If you prefer a more controlled baggy look, we recommend choosing one size smaller (S often corresponds to a standard US size 30).
The main difference is the shape of the leg. The Big Boy is wider at the thighs and slightly ‘ballooned’ (balloon cut). The '93 has a straighter cut from top to bottom, offering a more classic look but still wide.
At Polar, creation does not follow seasonal cycles but responds to a desire for durable and timeless pieces. The process is meticulous: it can take up to a year and a half between the sketch and production, a period during which each model is tested by local skaters.
The brand uses its own exclusive 100% cotton fabrics. The European production (supervised in Poland) takes into account the natural character of the material: although each roll of fabric is pre-washed to control shrinkage, slight variations in fit may occur.
Finally, if the price varies from one color to another, it is a matter of labor time: a complex light wash requires hours of treatment, compared to about twenty minutes for a dark wash.
Pontus Alv explains that the ‘Big Boy’ character sometimes overshadowed the brand, to the point that some people no longer associated it with Polar. This shift towards a simplified tone-on-tone aesthetic reflects a desire for maturity: the aim is to refocus attention on the quality, cut and unique washes of the trousers. Fans can rest assured that the character is still part of the brand's DNA and will continue to make occasional appearances.
To ensure your jeans last a long time and age well (vintage effect), it is crucial to follow a few simple rules:
- Always wash your pants inside out at a maximum temperature of 30°C and avoid overloading your washing machine: excessive friction in an overfilled drum may cause white lines or even holes in the fabric.
- Avoid tumble drying, which could shrink the cotton fibre.
- Finally, forget the old myth about putting jeans in the freezer: this technique is only for raw denim (selvedge) and does not apply to Polar models.
